we drank
from the hose
after
playing ball.
we knew enough
to wait and let it cool
down
as the water shot through
the hot
green rubber snake.
the burst of water
pushed
out the ants
and spiders, then
we rinsed our heads
with it, we
turned the nozzle to our
mouths,
filling up
until
it was someone else's turn.
strangely
no one died.
