understood why divorced women

don't return

the diamond

engagement rings

you gave them.

even when they are the ones

that ended

the marriage

by sleeping with other men.

it should be mandatory,

a law of some kind,

an act

of common-sense decency.

it's not like they're

going to wear them again,

so where are they?

stuffed in some drawer,

stored away in a blue velvet box,

or lined up

on a shelf,

like notches on a bed post?

i want all three

of mine back.

i could cash them in and take

a long solo cruise around

with that money.
