to play stick ball behind
the drugstore.
we spray painted a strike
zone on
the wall,
and decided where
the pitching
mound would be.
a ground ball was a single.
a fly ball,
not caught, was a double,
a triple
was if the ball hit the fence
not far behind
the pitcher,
and if the rubber ball sailed
over the fence
and into the apartment
building,
it was a home run.
a grand slam
was if the ball smashed
into a window,
breaking it.
but of course, the game
was suspended at
that point for a few weeks.
