in the old neighborhood
were thieves, they stole
anything
not nailed or glued
down.
bikes,
food from the grocery store,
comic books,
candy.
model airplanes and cars,
and for the most
part
they got away with it,
they were
often chased
out
the front door by a gangly
manager
with a name tag,
never to be caught.
eventually most of the bad
boys
grew up
and stopped,
but one or two began
to steal
cars,
or rob.
they didn't get as far.
