concert
up on the hill,
where the big tent is
in the county
park.
everyone
has carried up their coolers
and lawn
chairs.
blankets are set
out with Tupperware
full of eggs
and sandwiches.
cold chicken.
dogs are on leashes, and children
are chasing fireflies.
soon the banjos
will start playing, a harmonica
will sound off,
and the garbled
microphone
will spill out words in a song.
the soft
ramble of a tambourine is heard too.
the sun has already
set, the bugs
have settled down,
summer is nearly gone.
