was something special about
going to the movies
when you
were a kid.
the curtain would pull back
after you
found your seat
and purchased your
popcorn and drink,
your box
of candy.
it was the middle of the week
in the afternoon
when seats
were cheap.
the theater half
empty.
a double feature perhaps.
the usher in his uniform,
with his flashlight
telling to you
to put your feet down,
and then the music
would begin,
the cartoon
and previews and finally
the main feature
in technicolor glory.
it was heaven, all of your
childhood troubles
for a few long hours,
forgotten.
