three days later

the police are on the way.
we can
here the sirens,
the dogs are barking.
neighbors are out on their
porches
with their phones.
it's the couple next door.
the newlyweds.
apparently the honeymoon
is over.
we can hear glass breaking,
and words
that make us close the ears
of children
with our hands.
there's cake and a wedding
dress on the lawn.
their car is soaped up,
and with a banner still strung
across the roof,
saying grand opening
tonight.
the young couple still have rice
in their hair,
and half the gifts have yet
to be opened.
now she's chasing him with
a serving knife
down the street, the po po
better hurry
love is a mysterious thing.
