my nerves i used to have
a drink
or two
on the way over to visit
Betty.
i kept a flask in
the glove compartment
with a small
shot glass.
i needed
just a little tequila
to take
the edge off.
i kept a lime
on the dashboard
and a shaker of salt
in the little
cubby hole
beside the gear shift.
by the time i arrived
at her house,
taking the back roads,
i was in a pretty good
mood,
and didn't mind how she
went on and on
about her
cats,
and the bump on her leg.
