in the tub of hot water,
shaving
in the dark.
dragging the razor across
my face,
i listen to the newlyweds
next door.
our mutual vents provide
such interesting
conversations.
i haven't heard a single
cross word yet.
but it's early in the game
and
they're still in love.
i hear her voice,
sweet but loud, honey,
do you need a towel.
can i scrub your back?
there's shampoo
and soap
on the rack.
i laid out a mat for you
when you get out.
i smile as i continue
shaving,
being careful not to nick
my chin,
my last tenant here
hated when
i let blood drip on anything.
