she knew your name

at the end
of the day, as a young boy,
you stood
at your bureau
and emptied your pockets.
out came
the pen knife, your
lucky rabbit's foot
with a key
attached,
spare change, a folded
one dollar bill
that you've had
since last summer.
there's a quartz rock
you picked
up along the way.
a pack of gum,
and a phone number
on a slip
of paper
from the girl you met at
the playground
who strangely knew
your name.
