let's call it a party room, a reception
room,
a room for weddings,
or birthdays
or reunions of some sort,
retirements.
it's full of tables. big round
black tables with
white folding chairs.
the dance floor is in alternating
squares of blue and white
linoleum.
the drapes are heavy as is
the brocaded
wallpaper,
paper Martha Washington would
be proud to have in
her humble abode
up on the hill of Fairfax County.
sconces are on the walls
three quarters of the way
up to the 20 foot ceilings.
evenly measured,
just so apart for ambient lighting
when the sky grows dark.
it's an elderly
care facility
stretching out over acres
of land.
a senior home for the wealthy,
with deep pockets
and estranged children
who are no longer close to heart.
there are pools and exercise
rooms.
saunas and on the far lot
a putting green,
that no one seems to use.
but it's a fine place to rest your head,
for one last
go.one last cheer as another
new year
ticks off the clock
in the big grande room.
