to each
his own
documentary
of the life we lead
no matter how
great or mundane it is.
look here,
at this ocean, the flooded
streets,
me and you in
a rowboat
going down Main Street.
look at this hamburger
that i'm about to eat,
the size
of this apple, this peach,
and here we are, happy as larks,
at a birthday party,
sitting
in our high seats.
there's the setting sun.
the full moon.
a baby born,
a gravestone for
the newly deceased.
all of us are movies stars now,
not extras,
recording our thin legacies,
for posterity.
