I shake the snow off my coat,
and set it on the chair,
I unravel my scarf, take a seat
and remove my boots.
there's a fire
burning.
my legs ache after the long
walk
through the dark woods, alone.
she's asleep on the sofa,
she didn't hear me come in.
I turn the light
off
and go sit beside her.
I take her hand and touch her
hair, her cheek.
you're home, she says,
looking up,
the fire in her eyes,
melting with tears.
you're home, she says again,
then kisses me.
I love you, don't ever
leave me
like that again.
