those kind of days

i see the stray dog
on the highway,
not dodging traffic, but just
sort of taking his time
as he walks across six
lanes of traffic
along route 66.
cars are slamming on their
brakes.
trucks are veering
out of the way. buses
just barely avoid him.
the dog doesn't care,
he just keeps walking
slowly to the other side.
he doesn't seem to care
or has a lot on his mind.
I've had those kind
of days.
