it was like putting a finger
in a dike
about to break as the rain
kept pouring down.
the water cresting as the thunder
roared.
another crack, another hole.
another argument, another lie,
i tried my best to keep
the river back,
but it was an impossible task.
i had no help.
it was just me trying to keep
together what wouldn't hold.
finally, i just gave up,
and let it all go, let the dam
break, the levees overflow, i let
the whole thing go down,
taking me with it to another
shore.
