perfectly human

we make vows.
promises to ourselves.
saying things like, i'll
never do that again.
i'll never get married again,
or let someone
crazy into my life,
i'll never eat Ethiopian food,
or travel
to mexico without bottled
water again,
or swim in shark infested
waters
with a bloody nose.
or put all my money
on Microsoft before
the market closes.
we say never again, and
yet, strangely something
overcomes us and we do.
