with her ever
expanding liberal empathy
she let
all the stray animals
on the street
into the house,
no questions asked.
the birds flew in,
bats too,
the bees
settled in corners, making
nests.
the mice found
their way into the walls,
raccoons gave
birth to more racoons
in the attic.
the house
was a chaotic mess
and soon,
there was no room
for us.
