the conversation
i overhear
is more interesting than
the one
i'm having in my head,
so i listen
to the woman
talking to another woman
about how
unhappy
she is.
they are both well dressed,
with wedding
rings on their hands,
shopping bags
at their side.
they talk
about their children, their
husbands,
how unloved they are,
the beach house
on some far away sand.
life should be better
than this, she says.
they agree on almost everything,
then stop
talking when they see that
i can hear them.
i'm just another man.
