the phone call

I put the phone on speaker.

draw a hot bath.

she babbles on and on and on.
every now and then

I pick the phone up and say,
uh uh. yup.

then set it down again.
I take a bath.

I shave.

I relax and read. I can hear
her go on and on and on,

uh uh, I tell her. yup.

I agree.

she has so much to say and it
really doesn't matter
if i'm there or not.

it's a long talk, I don't want
to interrupt
her, she has so many important
things to say.

finally she stops and catches
her breath and says
she has to go.

she has other calls to make.

we'll, nice chatting. we'll
have to talk again soon
i say, before
hanging up.
