sometimes
the devil that you know is
better than
the one that you don't.
I've seen it time and time
again.
having gone through it myself.
staying put in hell
and stopping,
waiting as if hell will
no longer
be hell,
hesitant,
instead of getting out,
running to the other side
to the nearest exit.
it's a persuasive argument
your mind and heart makes,
trumping
your gut instincts,
your true and infallible
self.
