adorable and fun

i buy a live

turkey

for the holiday

and put it in the back yard.

thanksgiving

is a week away.

the turkey knows what's

coming.

he sees the axe stuck

in the tree trunk.

i see him out there

rubbing his neck

and looking

for gaps

in the fence.

before long he starts doing

tricks,

tap dancing,

telling me jokes.

singing songs

and doing cartwheels

and flips.

i know what he's doing,

he's trying to get on my

good side, making himself

adorable

and fun.

it reminds me of an old

girlfriend i used to have.
