the turn in the road

she showed me her scars,
deep
healed wounds
from an accident
years ago.
her leg,
her shoulder,
her arm.
she drifted off as she told
the story,
the turn
in the road, the truck,
the moonlight,
the man who died.
how lucky she was to
have survived.
after that,
i have nothing to say,
a little heartbreak here
and there
seemed so trivial.
