she wore a red dress

for her sister's wedding
she wore a bright red
dress.

she did not go unnoticed.
she bloomed

while the sister withered
and
aged, gone
brown

in her white lace.

she wore red and made a speech.
a long
sonnet
from shakespeare.

memorized
and acted out for the attentive
crowd.

she won.
she wore a red dress.

no ring, no beau.
but victorious.

the queen at last despite
no crown.
