ruminations
are
ugly, pesky dark thoughts
that come back
out of nowhere.
what triggers you?
the road you're on,
the smell
outside the window.
a song
on the radio.
they are old stale thoughts.
like grey gum
stuck to the tread of
your thick shoes.
you can never quite
scrape it all away
with the sharp stick
you carry with you.
