summer trip
this year.
but then i look at the calendar
on my desk
and it's already October,
almost
into November.
i was wondering why
it got so cold out.
my new bright blue
bathing suit
is on the bed, the tag still
on, my big beach towel.
my shovel
and bucket.
the new James Patterson
novel
hasn't even been opened yet.
there are my sandals.
my sunscreen.
my granola bars for the journey.
all waiting patiently
for a vacation
they'll never get.
maybe next year.
