you do go on, don't you?

so you stop for gas.
the tank low,
the yellow light on.
you sigh and unbuckle.
you do go on
with these things, don't you?
the credit card
into the pump,
the numbers punched.
you clean the windshield
as you wait,
you watch the sun
melt above the Exxon sign.
then off to the store
where you buy
the necessary things.
the bread
of life. your meat.
your drink. your shaving
needs,
and other assorted
items.
you pass the flowers
and the hallmark cards
without a glance.
you do go on with things,
don't you?
