when
the police came and arrested
the woman next door.
knowing what she was up to,
and the men
she hung out with,
it was just a matter of time
before the po po came
a knocking.
i stood out
on the porch with my
cup of coffee
and waved to her as they
took her out
of the house in handcuffs.
she didn't even have time
to put on her make up,
but still had her fishnet
stockings on
and stiletto heels.
she looked at me and
yelled out.
take care of muffy for me. okay?
i said, who's muffy?
but it was too late, as the
cat jumped into
the squad car with her.
