on the boat,
signaling mayday
to the coast guard,
come save me, tow me in.
i'd send up a flare into
the dark windy sky,
the ocean filling the deck,
as i pumped it out again.
my life jacket on,
as i took the wheel of
the doomed ship,
not yet willing to let
it go down.
i saw no land, no other
ships around.
just me, locked in
this storm
unwilling to drown.
