an unlikely spot for a French
Pastry
establishment
to open up
in this suburban sprawl
of strip
malls
connected like dots
and dashes
on a relief map,
and yet there it is.
snug between
the party store and gentlemen's
club,
the cat clinic
and bank.
across the lot is
the dry cleaner
lit up with
fluorescent red lights.
but there are sweets
in the window of Mon Ami
Pastry,
crullers and cakes,
macarons,
cream filled delights,
everything as light as
a feather,
Marie Antoinette
would be proud
to be part of this small
town blight.
