living free and easy in NYC

if we're going

to give away free food

the mayor exclaims

from his

soap box,

if we're going to have free

buses

and shelters

and health care

and schooling

and day care

for our children,

we need to empty 

the pockets of the working

class.

the rich and not

so rich.

the ones piecing a life

together from

paycheck to paycheck

are going to have to step

up and pay more.

we need to tax the blood

out of stones.

it's time to share and

give to the lazy

and weak, the homeless,

the mentally ill,

the criminals and

downtrodden of our fine

city.

the unfortunate ones

stuck

in generational welfare,

perpetually on EBT.

and after you give

and give until it hurts,

then

we can start giving free

stuff away

as promised.
