just returned from climbing
up
Mt. Everest.
part of his nose
is gone,
he's limping.
and there's something
wrong
with his arms.
his face
is red behind
the long scraggily hair.
he can't stop
talking about
the mountain,
the snow, the wind,
the crevices
and fear.
he tells me about the three
sherpas
that helped him
up the steep icy inclines,
and nods sadly
at the one that died.
they're still looking for my wife
up there.
but enough about me,
he says,
with a smile. so what have
you been up to
lately,
and i tell him about my
trip to Costco
on Saturday. the crazy long
lines.
