this rippling of skin

on my arm,

this crease

in my forehead,

the lines

around my mouth.

was i in a fight last night,

while sleeping.

did the cat

scratch me,

did an ex sneak in

and pummel me

with a bag

of nickels 

while i lay in bed

asleep?

who aged me like this,

so suddenly?

it was just yesterday

i was king

of the junior prom,

sitting on a throne

with a teenage queen.

lineless and young,

care free.
