faux kings and queens

i used to love sports.

playing

them,

watching them in person

or on tv.

each morning

i'd check the box scores

of my favorite

teams.

whether hoops,

or baseball, basketball.

i'd check the medal

standings

of the Olympics.

and now i hardly bother.

money and egos

have taken

over things.

it's a business, the fun

taken out

of it.

there are no heroes

anymore,

just faux kings and queens.
