she
comes crying to me
over
the phone.
i can hear
her dog barking in the background.
he's always
barking it seems.
it's over, she says.
he's left me
for good this time.
he packed his bags
and left
early this morning.
no note,
nothing.
i have no words
to ease her pain, but
try just
the same by telling her,
you can't lose
what you never had.
this doesn't help.
it never
does.
