that's why i like you

i like
the occasional
hot pepper
mixed
in food,
scrambled eggs,
or meat, perhaps
on a sandwich,
or stirred
in stew.
red, green, orange
or yellow.
just a few
slices will do.
enough to make me
sweat,
to wipe my brow
and drink
a tall glass of water
to wash it all
down.
i like the heat.
that's why i like you.
