this thing, this small
paper
cup
of stewed tomatoes that
was offered
as food
as we went through the cafeteria
line
at school.
never, not once, did i see
a single person
ever put that on
his or her tray.
and yet there were
hundreds
of these cup laid out
beside the green
Jello
everyday.
