many days, many summer

hours

lingering

at the pool,

hoping Betsy would show

up

in her yellow

bikini.

i wore

my sunglasses

and Coppertone.

i flexed

and sat

up

staring out across the wide

blue pool.

i'm still waiting now,

but i'm

growing old.
