for the sun to rise high
enough
so that it
warms the yard,
the chairs
so that i can go out
and read
the paper,
i fix coffee and
commiserate with the dog
and cat,
bewildered
by the divorce.
one on the counter
pawing
a can of tuna,
the other
with a ball in its
mouth,
holding a longing stare.
all in good time,
i tell them,
and as you both know
by now,
i'm currently
the new boss here.
