the lone tree in the small yard
appears
to have given up.
the leaves
have fallen early in pale
colors.
the branches
are grey as the once
thick trunk
bends
towards earth,
a slow bow of surrender,
perhaps.
yes.
the good old tree, the shade
tree
i've watered and
watched
for years,
is giving way for what's next.
