somewhere, someone decided
that balloons
were the tool, the right
trick,
to get people to come into a store,
tethering them
to a door,
to buy a mattress,
or to buy a car.
blowing up
a colorful plastic
balloon will do the trick
they reasoned, putting
their educated
heads together.
this should do it, they
all agreed,
balloons are the answer,
as if we are children,
which i suppose
in so many ways
we still are.
