frozen food

i know

i'll never eat this food,

i'll never

defrost it

and let it thaw on

the counter.

and yet,

i wrap it tightly,

put it in a freezer

bag

and stuff it into the ice

box

next to bags

of peas

and carrots, cubes

of ice.

farewell i tell the squares

of lasagna,

the meatballs,

goodbye old friends.

one day,

maybe years from now,

i'll forget who you are,

under these wrappings

and toss you out.
