and gloved dental
hygienist
hovers
over me with her tools
of the trade.
she tells me
that my blood pressure
is high today
and that my
gums are bleeding
when she
sticks the sharp metal
prong between
my teeth.
poking at my gums.
she acts as if she has
nothing to do with it.
but there's nothing
i can do or say because her
hands are in my mouth.
like a coal miner
in a cave
