Queen jane

i always try to get 

the same toll booth

operator

when i'm travelling on the 

New Jersey

Turnpike,

which makes the other

drivers angry

as i switch from lane to lane,

moving over

and over until

i reach her.

her name tag says Jane,

but she's far

from plain.

she's the most beautiful

girl i've ever seen working

in a toll both.

bright blue eyes, red frizzy

hair and freckles.

plump with a smile.

sadly it's a brief exchange.

she slides open

her window and

i hand her the money,

she hands

me the change.

does she even know how

i feel about her?

next week i'll see her again.
