was something about
her sitting
there
on the stool, a potato
in one
hand,
a metal peeler
in the other,
her hands
raw and red
from
doing all the things
that mothers
do,
from sunrise until
bed.
there was something
serene
about her peeling
and peeling,
one potato after another
as the water came
to a boil.
