the new wilderness

there is not a single
bored
animal in the world.
not a bird
in flight,
no lions, no yawns
by monkeys on their vines.
no giraffe is
on facebook scrolling
memes.
no hippos, over eating,
too late
for that.
just us,
just we are pacing the room
with too
much time
on our hands
wondering what to
do next, read, write,
watch tv,
put a puzzle together
on the floor,
go to the back window
and stare
out there for awhile,
alone in this new wilderness
of death.
