be prepared

I put up some mistletoe
above a few
doorways
in the house,

hoping at some point this holiday season
to steal a kiss
or two from some lucky gal.

I buy a few tubes of chap stick too.

one never knows when your luck
might change.

when your ship might come in again.
it's good to be prepared

my mother used to say,
as she packed band aids
and a bottle of mercurochrome
inside my lunch box

along with a tuna sandwich
and an apple.
