island monkeys

the small monkeys
that run all over the island
are cute
and mean,
taking bites
out of hands
and shoulders as they
are used
for props,
pictures to be sent
back home,
to you or me.
a trickle of blood
spills
out, as they run off
with the nut
you gave
them, the banana,
the sugar cane
now hanging from their
mouth.
