steps up,
i counted,
to the top
floor
of the four story
walk up.
sometimes i'd skip
two at a time.
i was young.
carrying
groceries. i couldn't
wait to see her,
to kiss her
on the lips
as i came in. she'd
wrap
her arms around me
and whisper
in my ear,
tonight, she'd say.
i'm all yours.
we'd sit out on the fire escape
when summer
came,
we'd linger
in the rain.
we had nothing,
we had everything.
it would last forever.
still
she's in my mind.
