the best years
there are defining
moments in one's life,
a mix of tragedy
and joy,
but then
there are long stretches
of nothing.
years of quietly
going about
your days, your nights.
savor these times.
relish the lack
of noise.

the end of year evaluation
cancelling the wedding
the Christmas gin and tonic
live and let live
leaving on a jet plane
a half loaf
chicken again?
the harmonica player
the short history of early man
the cardinal at the window
the sound of crickets
bring your lunch
she hasn't changed
a final round before dark
left behind crackers
surviving the big bang
the alimony negotiation
one of a kind
the blood stream
youtube, the new wizard of oz
baby you can drive my car
jumping the shark
let's lie down on the highway and other moronic ideas
troubles solved
the big muddy
church mice
the harbor lights
driven to whiskey on a winter night
absent of fantasy
we'll talk about my heart tomorrow
the rain is coming
fame and fortune
an excusable mix up
a hard snow
a life half over
all the pretty girls going by
dill pickles are the reason
the pancake train
eating dead things
alone but not lonely
finding our natural home
the inheritance
nothing is lost
ten years ago
the other cheek
blessed
i'll be back soon
the divining rod
unconditional love
the clearing at the pond
dry ice to me now
feathered friends
a slender bone
breakfast could wait
the party light
it's a yearly thing i tell her
the first tree out
the snipping of vines
behind blue eyes
woman across the way
hold on tight
i'm on my way
not what it used to be
intruder in the night
let me get my pants on, hold on
negotiating the Christmas tree
the race to the border before the election
still on the nice list
the gift that keeps giving
freeing the art from his hands
the year end game
holiday travels
the aim is still true
no place to hide
the poem yet written
embracing ignorance
the music of words
the bird watchers
busted for peeing in the woods
cleaning up Christmas
i need a new scale
the inevitable foxhole
is everyone unhappy?
better days are coming
reflection in a store window
the ruby slippers
knock on wood
piano legs
full of baloney
walking on eggshells
an interesting demise
ain't over until it's over
relentless
open it
no such thing as an original sin
when the phone rings
they are animals not babies
cry me a river
i know what it is
the ice box
