let's do something fun this weekend

i used to

go to the opera with her,

or to go see the River Dancer show,

or to the shoe

sales

at the mall.

we'd go see the cherry

blossoms

in April,

we'd  pick blue berries

on a farm

a hundred

miles from here.

we'd visit her cousin

who makes

straw

baskets in West Virginia, or

attend the Apple Butter Festival

in Winchester.

finally we broke

up.

and now when i see her

with her new

boyfriend driving by

off on some new

adventure, i wave at them 

and smile

while the new boyfriend

shakes his head

in despair

and closes his eyes.
